The islands of the Venetian lagoon are as fascinating as the city center.
The first stop is San Francesco del Deserto, home to a secluded monastery still in use today. Legend has that St. Francis of Assisi founded it when he stopped there on the return trip from a journey to the Middle East.
We'll move on to Torcello where we'll have lunch at one of Venice's most famous restaurants.
Before heading back to the city center, we'll enjoy the serenity of San Lazzaro degli Armeni, once a leper colony in the 12th century now home to a stunning Benedictine monastery.
