More than a city, Venice is a living museum.  Its rich history is evident in every square, from the exotic St. Mark’s Basilica to the imposing Doge’s Palace, home of the Doge (mayor) and seat power of the once powerful Venetian government.   Our walking tour will span the centuries beginning with the Venice of Marco Polo and ending with an explanation of contemporary Venetian life and the race against time to save the city from sinking into the canals on which it was built.  After leaving St. Mark’s Square our tour winds through the labyrinth of delicate alleyways, rewarding visitors with breathtaking glimpses of the Grand Canal.  We pass by the restored La Fenice Opera house, and into the hidden squares on the way to the most beautiful stairs in Venice,  “The Bovolo staircase”.  Our tour concludes at the majestic Rialto Bridge, from which you gain spectacular views of the Grand Canal.  We avoid the long lines by using a special entry to the Basilica of St Marks.
