Three stunning Medieval towns in the heart of the Veneto

We’ll leave Venice bound for the idyllic countryside of the Veneto where we’ll visit three of the region’s most beautiful Medieval villages.  Our first stop of the day is the walled city of Marostica famed for its grand castle and the ramparts circling the city.  In an unusual claim to fame, Marostica is also known for its annual living game of chess that takes place on an enormous chessboard in the main square.   We’ll move on to the serenity of Bassano del Grappa, famous for – what else- it’s Grappa!  We’ll visit the region’s best known distillery to see how this very potent digestive is made.  Next on the itinerary is the highlight of our tour, the village of Asolo, nestled in the foothills of the Dolomites.  The town is enchanting and we’ll stroll the streets that poet Robert Browning fell in love with.  We’ll also visit the 15^th Century castle of Caterina Comaro, Queen of Cyprus.  This day is designed to be relaxing and fun so you’ll choose your restaurant for lunch, with the help of your guide of course, after which we’ll head back toward Venice stopping, if time permits, at the beautifully frescoed Villa Barbaro.
