A Day in the Life of Ancient Rome- Ostia Antica-Private Tour

Step back in time with a visit to the Roman Empire’s best preserved town

R- BT – 17 – PR

Just 30 minutes from Rome, the seaside town of Ostia had fallen into obscurity after its grand past as ancient Rome’s naval base and major commercial port.  After centuries of abandon, and several feet of the Tiber River’s mud, 19th Century excavations uncovered some of the best preserved ruins of the ancient world.  We’ll step into ancient Rome as we walk the town’s two main streets exploring the remains of shops and trading offices, complete with mosaic tiling, Roman baths, the House of Diana (best preserved private residence in Ostia) and even a café with serving counter and shelving still in tact.  Past the edge of town is a Jewish Synagogue, believed to be the oldest of its kind in the Western World.

Highlights:

Osta Antica, Necropolis, Piazzale della Vittoria, Baths of Neptune, Diana's House, Synagogue
