Ancient Rome was more than art and architecture, masterminds of engineering made sure the vast city functioned perfectly, from ensuring a constant supply of fresh water to creating burial grounds that were hygienic and hidden from view. We’ll go beyond the city walls to travel the beautiful tree-lined Appian Way, known as the ‘Queen of Roads’, down which most of Rome’s supplies traveled so many years ago. Along the way, you’ll see yet another aspect of the ancient Romans’ genius, including the remains of the famous aqueducts and the mysterious underground tunnels of the catacombs.
