The Best of Umbria- A Day in Assisi-Private Tour

Visit Assisi and Spoleto, the most famous of Umbria’s hilltop towns

R- BT – 20 – PU

Known as the ‘green heart of Italy’ Umbria is one of the country’s most beautiful and unspoiled regions, a pastoral expanse of rolling green hills dotted with small farms and stunning hilltop villages dating to the Middle Ages.  Our tour will visit two of these, Spoleto and the famous Assisi.   Still surrounded by the stone walls built when it was a Roman colony, Spoleto is a charming city that boasts a few of Italy’s oldest Romanesque churches. After a brief stop there, we’ll move on to the crown jewel of Umbria, the town of Assisi.  Best know for its patron St. Francis, the town’s narrow cobbled streets are filled with art and history.  The main attraction is the stunning St. Francis Basilica, home to what may be the world’s greatest collection of medieval Italian art outside of a museum.  After we’ve visited the major sights together, it’s off to a lunch of delicious Umbrian fare followed by free time in which you can explore the city at your own pace.  On our way back to Rome, we’ll make a stop in the city of Deruta, famed for its hand painted ceramics.
