The Baroque Walk-Private Tour

See how the modern face of Rome was created by legendary Baroque artists like Bernini

R- WT – 08 - PR

17th Century Rome, in a distant reflection of the days of the Roman Empire thousands of years ago, was given to decadence.  The art and architecture of the period, known as Baroque, is ornate and fanciful, rich in detail with florid touches that distinguish it from anything that came before.  The most important artist of the time was Bernini who, with the help of the powerful Cardinal who sponsored him, left an unforgettable stamp on Rome with works all over the city from St. Peter’s Basilica to the exclusive 17th Century drawing rooms of Rome’s rich and powerful.  We’ll also see works by Borromini, another of the great Baroque artists, and learn how his attempt to match Bernini’s fame and recognition led to tragedy.

Highlights:

Piazza Navona, Sant'Ivo alla Sapienza, Palazzo Montecitorio, Sant'Andrea al Quirinale, San Carlino alle Quattro Fontane, Piazza Barberini, Galleria Borghese, St Peter's, Ponte Sant'Angelo

Those interested in 18th Century Baroque can opt to visit the Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps
