FLORENCE FOR KIDS!
Children ages 8-12 explore and learn more about Florence while searching for its historical, cultural, and artistic "treasures". All tours will be conducted in English as educational and fun activities for the children of the English-speaking community and visitors. This is also a great opportunity for children currently studying English to utilize their classroom learning and gain more exposure to conversational English. The first tour, Florence For Kids Treasure Hunt is free!
Groups are limited to 15, so advance booking is strongly advised.
October 20: Florence for Kids Treasure Hunt - FREE TOUR! Have a wild boar grant you a wish, discover who was buried alive near the Duomo, and design your own family chapel. All this (and much more!) as you hunt for artistic treasures in the center of Florence! October 27 Sculpture Treasure Hunt in the Boboli Gardens* See a real Egyptian obelisk, discover a flying horse, find a dwarf sitting on a turtle, All this (and much more) as you hunt for sculptural treasures in the gardens of the Medici Grand Dukes! November 10 Dante Treasure Hunt* Discover the Middle Ages as we hunt for treasures in Dante's Florence! November 24 Life as a Medici in the Renaissance Treasure Hunt* Visit the Medici palace, take a "virtual" tour of Lorenzo the Magnificent's bedroom, and hunt for his family and friends in the family chapel. All this (and much more) as we experience life in the Renaissance through the eyes of Lorenzo the Magnificent! December 8 Christmas Baking (Special Event) Learn about Florentine children's holiday traditions as we bake typical Christmas treats! February 9 Uffizi Treasure Hunt* Art museums don't have to be boring! Hunt for strange animals, find out what "grotesque" painting is, hear about some of the strange ingredients used to make paint, learn why Venus is floating on a giant shell...all this (and much more) as we tramp around the most famous collection of Renaissance art in the world!
February 23 David and the Life of Michelangelo Treasure Hunt* Learn about the life of Michelangelo as we visit the most famous sculpture in the world! March 8 Traditional Crafts - Paper Marbling (Special Event) Get your hands dirty learning a traditional Florentine craft - how to marble paper! March 29 Palazzo Vecchio- Children’s Museum Treasure Hunt* Hear about some of the strange laws once passed by the government (what color would you be allowed to wear?) as we visit Florence's Town Hall and walk in the steps of Grand Duke Cosimo I's children as we explore where they once lived!
April 12 The Duomo Treasure Hunt* See a clock that counts backwards, discover engineering marvels, visit a children's choir made of stone, and design your own church facade. All this (and much more) as we explore one of the largest churches in the world!
April 26 Artisan Visits Treasure Hunt Meet tradtional craftspeople who still make things like shoes, picture frames, books, and jewelry by hand, just like they have for hundreds of years. All this (and much more) as we explore the artisan quarter on the other side of the Arno River! May 10 The Piazza as Playground Treasure Hunt Piazzas have always been the heart of the Florentine life, and children have been coming to them for hundreds of years to watch spectacles and play. Come with us as we hunt for a wheel where baby orphans found care, count bees that are nearly "impossible" to add up, hear a ghostly tale, and learn about jousts and bloody soccer matches still held today!
