Shopping in Rome, Italy

The shopping scene in Rome is as vast as the city is wide. There are temptations and bargains for every taste waiting to be found in every nook and cranny of the city. Each neighbourhood has something different and eclectic to offer and below you will find an outline of Rome’s most renowned streets as well as the less-travelled ones.

Beginning from the Spanish Steps and branching out onto Via Condotti, Rome’s most exclusive and most expensive boutiques are the native inhabitants of this upscale shopping area. These shops cater to the affluent, but everyone can enjoy their beautifully decorated window displays. If you are in the market for antiques, whether to acquire or just to browse, Via dei Coronari is the street to frequent. With over 40 stores in a mere 4 city blocks, this part of Rome is a heaven for collectors and dealers alike. Via Babuino and Via Fontanella Borghese offer chic boutiques and a dazzling array of interesting shops that reflect the taste of their owners. Via del Corso is perhaps the longest street and the one that offers an assortment of stores for all budgets and all fashion styles while catering mostly to younger generations. For one of Rome’s most famous and most colourful markets, a stop in Campo dei Fiori is a must –do. This daily market offers a rainbow spectrum of flowers fruits and vegetables and the area surrounding the main square is just as intriguing as the offerings at the market.

Needless to say, there is an overwhelming quantity of stores, boutiques and gift shops for every age and every expense account.
